Webinar: Advances in On-Animal Sensor Technologies in Extensive Rangelands

15th Oct 2025

Dr. Augustine’s research focuses on the influence of both domestic and wild mammalian herbivores on the structure, function, and diversity of rangeland ecosystems of North America and Africa.  Current studies examine strategies for adaptively managing livestock to balance trade-offs and achieve synergies in the production of multiple ecosystem services on rangelands.  A central component of this work is the application of on-animal and ground-based sensor networks to monitor and advance our mechanistic understanding of livestock grazing distribution and ecosystem-level effects.  Dr. Augustine serves as co-PI for the Long-term Agroecosystem Research site located at the Central Plains Experimental Range in Colorado, and as lead for the Grazing Lands Working Group for the Long-term Agroecosystem Research Network, which includes 8 sites representing the major grazing land ecosystems in the United States.
