2025 AAAS International Travel Awards - Anita Chang

Introducing our first 2025 International Travel Award recipient, Anita Chang.
Anita is a senior postdoctoral research fellow with the Precision Livestock Management team at CQUniversity. She holds a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (Hons I) from the University of Sydney (2017) and completed her PhD at CQUniversity (2021), where she focused on using on-animal sensors for calving detection.
Anita currently leads the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) funded project, Mooternal, which uses sensor systems to investigate the links between maternal behaviour and calf productivity and survival in northern Australia, in partnership with the Northern Territory Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (NTDAF). Her research interests include reproductive and maternal behaviours in cattle, as well as livestock data analytics.
Anita will be using her travel scholarship to support her travel and collaboration with the Oklahoma State University across three key activities - 1. Exploring opportunities for research program development, with a focus on postgraduate exchange, 2. Co-developing an intensive training program in on-animal sensor deployment and data analytics, and 3. Contributing to the planning and development of research-grade on-animal sensors being designed at Oklahoma State University (OSU).
