Cara Wilson
Co-Queensland & NT Branch Representative

Cara is a Senior Project Officer, Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Preparedness with Biosecurity Queensland, Department of Primary Industries (DPI). In this role, she focuses on strengthening EAD preparedness, supporting the implementation of traceability initiatives, and providing project management support to her team.

With a strong background in livestock health, epidemiology, and traceability, Cara has been involved in research exploring on-animal sensors for disease preparedness and cattle traceability through the value chain, as well as investigating pregnancy loss in Thoroughbred horses in Australia. She holds a PhD in livestock health and epidemiology from Charles Sturt University, where she studied the epidemiology and impacts of hydatid disease (Echinococcus granulosus) on the Australian beef industry.

Cara has also contributed to educational and extension activities, including developing STEM programs at CQUniversity to inspire future scientists and industry professionals, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Her passion lies in livestock health, disease preparedness, and traceability, with a strong focus on delivering practical and sustainable solutions for industry and producers. She is currently Co-President of the QLD & NT Branch of AAAS and serves as a branch representative to the Federal Council.
